We hope you are able to join us for MAA’s 60th annual meeting!

With the beautiful island atmosphere, wonderful attractions, and a great program, this conference promises to be one of our best. This year’s meeting site is Mission Point Resort, located on the southeastern tip of the island overlooking Lake Huron. Bring your bicycle and good walking shoes as the island is automobile free.

In addition to an impressive list of sessions, conference highlights include a reception at Mission Point Resort, and tours of Fort Mackinac, the historic Mission Point Resort, and a hidden sights of Mackinac tour led by a sixth-generation islander. The island offers a wide array of cultural and recreational opportunities, such as biking, golfing, hiking, shopping, and historic battlefield tours. In addition, you can choose from a pub or fudge crawl (or both!) the night before the conference to welcome you to the island. Be sure to check your welcome packet for a listing of activities and recreational offerings. Also, we have arranged for a round-trip ferry rate with Shepler’s Ferry at $19.00 for adults and $10.00 for children 5-12 (children under 5 are free). In order to receive the discounted rate, you must pay for the ferry with your conference registration before May 16. A list of pre-paid names will be provided to Shepler’s Ferry and verified prior to ferry boarding.

An impressive list of informational and educational programs includes such topics as social media outreach, audio collection management, Michigan women, collection security, diversity in collections, and for the first time, an archivist connection hour! In addition, our keynote speaker, Dr. Lynn Evans of the Mackinac State Historic Parks, will take us on an adventure through the history of the people who have called the region home throughout the centuries.

Another way to get to know Mackinac Island is by experiencing the variety of tours available to members! Take a walk through Fort Mackinac, wander through Mission Point to see the history of the Mission District, or ride on a carriage through the "real" Mackinac Island, led by a sixth-generation islander.

Finally, a block of rooms has been reserved for June 16 – 17. Room rates, not including taxes, are $179 per night. In addition, a luggage transport fee of $6.00 per adult that will be charged to your room. The reservation cut off date is May 16, 2019 for the conference rate. Please call (800) 883-7711 to make reservations, and mention that you are staying as part of the Michigan Archival Association conference to receive the discounted rate.
